U22 Quarter Final   -  Fri 18 Nov 22.

Piltown 0-09      St Brigids 2-13 (aet)

On a crisp clear cold Friday evening, on what turned out to be the last game of the season, our U22 team took on a classy St Brigids team for a place in the Semi Final.

The away side were on the front foot straight away as they attacked Danielle OBriens goal from the throw in as the ball was dropped in, was saved high by Danielle, and bounced back into play and was put into the net. Ref Ray Byrne went in and conferred with the umpires and called it a point as it hit the stancion behind and bounced back into play.

From a long puck out from our keeper, Ciara Dunne got possession and put the ball into corner forward Leah Cooney, and she burst forward and struck our first point off her favoured left side.

We scored the next two points as Aine Doyle struck over a point in the 6th minute and soon after, hard working half forward Aoife OShea got a fine score.

It was a stop/start half as our match referee was kept busy blowing fouls with a lot of niggly fouls. St Bridgids were a force going forward though, and looked very dangerous as they attacked at pace towards the Clubhouse. Patsy Kenny at centre back was superb, and was helped admirably by Rachel OShea and Sarah Tobin.

St Brigids dropped a lot of balls short of the goal though, allowing keeper Danielle and full back line of Brighid, Jenni and Sarah to clear time after time.

Brigids were soon level as they scored points in the 16th and 20th minutes through Lauren East and Lauren Rohan. In the 19th minute Brighid Twohig was adjudged to have fouled and a penalty was given.

It was Rohan Vs OBrien, and OBrien won, with a save low to Danielle's right. Overall it was a great display by the overworked keeper throughout the game. But Brigids soon went ahead as Rohan pointed twice more in the 25th and 29th minutes.

Áine Doyle got her second point from her second free in the 30th minute and Sophie Holden made it all square right on the half time whistle HT Piltown 0-05 St Brigids 0-05

Once again from the restart the away side started quickly as their classy forward Lauren Rohan put them back in front.

Our own classy forward, Aine Doyle, replied with her third free of the night to level it again. Doyle then put us ahead, as the temperature on the pitch was rising on a cold night.Sophie Holden, who had moved out to the half forward line where she caused lots of trouble for the away side, scored her second of the night to put us two up after 35minutes.

It took Brigids 7 minutes to get a score as the game turned into a battle in the Midfield with the ever eager Ellen OKeeffe and Chloe Power working hard and scoring chances were scarce. Despite that, Ellie Lanigan put over a fine point and that was soon followed by a free from the clinical Lauren Rohan.

Rohan then scored a point to put them ahead (a very dubious hand pass put her through) in the 47th minute. That turned out to be their final score of the half as the battle between the 21 yard lines intensified as we got near the final whistle. It took us until the 57th minute to equalise as Aine Doyle calmly struck over the bar.
Full Time 0-09 St Brigids 0-09

Onto Extra Time, and St Brigids upped the pace again, as they attacked Piltown relentlessly.

Our girls looked stuck to the heavy pitch, as the Brigids girls were flying. Ellie Lanigan pointed her second, and Lauren Rohan got 2 more, before Lanigan goaled in the 60th minute.

We didn't score at all throughout extra time as Lauren Rohan finished her night with an 80th minute goal and a personal tally of 1-09.

Final Score Piltown 0-09 St Brigids 2-13.

Best of luck to St Brigids in the next round. Well done and thanks to all girls and coaches involved. Its not easy to play on heavy pitches and cold conditions at this time of year, but they gave their all.

U12 Championship final   -  Sunday 6 November 22.

Piltown 0-03   JohnLockes 4-05

This U12 Championship final was originally fixed for the 19th Oct , and finally was played on Sunday 6 November. It was a bright dry, chilly day as the teams lined out on a soft pitch in Callan. After a very close League encounter back in August , this always promised to be a great game. it started off great for Piltown , as Ruby Norris confidently struck two 45s over the bar in the 2nd and 4th minutes , before Robyn Corcoran struck the ball beyond Rachel Tennyson to get John Lockes first score in the 6th minute..
She followed her goal up with a point four minutes later and Lockes stretched the lead when Ruth OSullivan got their second goal in the 14th minute. Ruby pointed from her third 45 in the 20th minute to leave us four behind , but Lockes capitalised on their chances and using the breeze (size 3 sliothar travels far!) and they scored their third goal of the half in the 22nd minute.
Piltown had their chances though, the ball just wouldnt roll on the grassy , soft ground as Siobhan Aylward, Sarah OShea Kate Fogarty and Aoife Malone all went agonisingly close to scoring a goal only to be twarted by Ava Roche on goal, and a very tight defence marshalled by Rinnah Hope Mukelenge. Ht score Piltown 0-03 John Lockes 3-01
Out for the second half , and we had the breeze, but straight away Lockes punished the Piltown defence and scored their first goal straight from the throw in. It looked done and dusted. Piltown battled away though , as they always do, but unfortunatley they just couldnt gain a foothold and grab a few scores.
It turned into a midfield battle and with a superb performance by Robyn Corcoran , John Lockes tagged on another 4 points to make the final score Piltown 0-03 John Lockes 4-05.
Piltown Wides 6 Frees 7 45's 4 Lockes Wides 3 Frees 5 45's 5
It was a great season for this great group of girls, and they are very unfortunate to not come out with a Championship for all their efforts throughout the year. Well done to all players , and to the management team.

U22 Roinn A final 2021.  Sat 22 Oct 22

Piltown 0-06      Dicksboro 3-15.

No, its not a mistake, this was the 2021 u22 final. The original fixture was called off due to fog late last year, and was arranged at short notice this week.

This was always going to be a very stern test for our girls and so it proved.

Dicksboro arrived into Piltown on a mild dry (to start) evening but we had a sticky pitch due to all the rain that fell earlier.

Referee John Walsh threw in the sliothar and away we went, attacking the Clubhouse end.

Dicksboro took the lead through rising star Asha McHardy in the second minute. We replied through our own rising star, Aine Doyle as she put over a free. It was looking like a shoot out early on, with Aobha OGorman getting her first score in the 4th minute, and was quickly followed by Amy Cliffords first.

Five minutes played and 4 scores.

Aine Doyle got her second from another placed ball to level it on 10minutes.

We didnt know it then but that that was as good as it was going to get for us, as the ball was delivered into Amy Clifford and she made no mistake hitting the net. Dicksboro upped it a gear or two now, and were moving away from us. McHardy, Clifford and OGorman were picking off points almost at will, with a Marlise Flynn point in the 19th minute our only reply for the rest of the half. Still, it took a long range goal from Aobha OGorman in the 29th min to knock the Piltown girls as they were defending admirably and denying any clear goal scoring chances. HT Piltown 0-03 Dicksboro 2-08

The second started with a free scored by Amy Clifford, before Ellen OKeeffe went on a marauding run down the centre and scored a great point. But once again the visitors raised the intensity to match their skill and pace with a superb goal from Rachel Dowling after a great phase of play from McHardy and then to Clifford who put Dowling through. Lorna OShea replied with a point, and despite savage work from Alanagh Gallagher, Patsy Kenny and Emily McCarthy to try keep the deadly forwards of the Boro out, they continued to tag points to keep the lead healthy. Piltown never gave up, even as the rain poured down, and the game was beyond salvage

Aine Doyle got her 3rd point via a free in the 60th minute to end the scoring.

Congrats to Dicksboro Camogie. A great team, playing a great style of camogie.

Well done to all girls that togged out on what turned out to be a miserable wet evening. Thanks to Andrew, Tony, and Kay for looking after the panel.

Minor Shield semi Final -  Tuesday 18 October 22.

Piltown 2-09    Tullogher 2-14    (aet)

Semi final heartbreak for another team as Tullogher came and beat our Minors on a breezy evening in Piltown. We started 13 v 13 and our Captain, Lorna OShea lost the toss and we were playing towards the clubhouse into the stiff breeze for the first half, but it didnt seem to bother us as Leah Cooney broke down the field and put the ball over the ball inside 60 seconds.

The first free of the game was confidently put over the ball for Tullogher, and by 15 miutes played they had 4 points, as the breeze played a part. Our second score came from an Ella Fogarty free that was sent into Leah, and she made no mistake in the 19th minute.

Playing 2 defenders on 2 forwards is awkward and neither side were comfortable as it leaves lots of space around , but Emma OShea (who cleared lots of ball) and Rachel OKeeffe did their job well, and were always covered by Brighid Twohig, Sarah Norris and Aoife OShea when needed.

But then Tullogher got their first goal , as they punished some hesitancy in defence in the 25th minute, and they scored another point just on the half time whistle to leave it 0-02 to 1-05 at half time.

After a talk from Michael, Seamus and Tony , the team upped it straight from the throw in. With the drive and workrate of Lorna OShea and Sophie Long they were gaining the upper hand and driving great ball into our half forwards and full forwards.

We got our first score of the half in the 37th minute as Leah Cooney got a 45 over the bar. We were on top now, as the breeze helped and Leah continued her streak with 2 more frees and 1 from play before Tullogher got their first points of the second half with two frees. We were closing , slowly but surely, and then once again Leah scored a goal to make it a one point game with 10 mins left. And sure enough , Leah got another point in the 52nd minute to level it. It was in the melting pot now, and the Tullogher defence was under pressure but they came again, and scored another point to go ahead with 3mins left.

Then in the 60th minute we got a free in front of goal, and with Leah standing over it, surely it was going to be a point and a draw. It was, and it was.

The final whistle went on the restart, and we were heading for extra time.

As Maurice Flynn threw the ball in for the first of two 10min periods, it was 15 V 15 again as subs were available. Their recovery was replicated on the pitch as Tullogher upped it with the breeze and scored 3 points without reply, until Brid Fogarty got the ball in hand , and from an angle out on the 14 , drove it through a mass of players into the net and we were level again.

The players came out for the final 10mins and we started well as Caoimhe McEvoy laid off a great hand pass to Leah and she made it 2-09 for Piltown in the 72nd minute. That proved to be our last score as Tullogher scored the next 3 points and a goal to finish 5 point winners.

A great effort by all the players involved , and well done to Leah Cooney scoring 1-09. Thanks to all players for their efforts during the year, and also to the management team, Michael ,Seamus, Tony and Kay.

U16 Shield semi final.   -  Friday 14 Oct 22.

Piltown 4-06     Bennettsbridge 7-06.

The end of the U16 season for our girls, as a clinical Bennettsbridge side came south to beat us for the second time in five weeks.

The Bridge girls got early goals in the last meeting, but it was our turn tonight as the ever improving Molly Power followed in a shot by her cousin Eabha, and volleyed the ball into the net for her second goal in 4 games.

It was a great start, similar to what happened in the game last Saturday, but once again the away side showed a clinical side.

2 goals in a minute from distance put 2-01 on the board inside 6mins, while our top scorer Grace Farrell got 3 frees in the 6th, 20th and 25th mins kept us in touch, barely but we were in touch.

Unfortunately for us, the visitors were scoring goals to our points and they had 5 scored by half time, with our reply through Grace scoring a rocket of a goal on the half time whistle.

Ht : Piltown 2-04 Bennettsbridge 5-04

It was a tough first half with the constant running and well delivered ball by the Bridge girls causing us massive problems. Into the second half and we got the first score again through Cliodhna Malone, but again the away side just went down and scored a goal.

The second half was much tighter, but we had numerous chances to score goals, but a mixture of great goalkeeping and defending kept us out.

Eabha Maher scored her second point of the match in the 39th minute, and again Bennettsbridge replied with a goal.

Eabha raised a green flag in the 46th minute and Grace got her 2nd goal in the final minute to finish the game with a final score of Piltown 4-06 Bennettsbridge 7-06. Congrats and best of luck in the final

A big thank you to all the girls for their efforts over the past 7months.

A big thank you to parents for being the taxi to training and games. They are a great bunch of girls, and it was said tonight by a spectator that it was lovely to hear the girls saying 'thank you' to the coaches... But thats the measure of those girls

U16 Championship semi final.    -    Saturday 8 October 22.

Carrickshock 0-14    Piltown 2-05   (a.e.t)

A game that had everything really, a game of 4 halves, we were up, we were down, they were down, they were up, we were level, and we were out.

On a fabulous Saturday morning in Hugginstown, from the moment John Walsh threw the sliothar in it was full gas on the pitch. Carrickshock started as we knew they would do, very quickly and had 2 points on the board before Eabha Maher had the ball in hand after a goalmouth scramble, and she made no mistake and scored a goal. It then became a battle between the two half forward lines as midfield possession was hard to turn into scoring opportunities.

There was blocking, hooking, and tackling all over the midfield until the ball was worked to Kate Farrell and the always dependable forward put the ball over the bar from distance. And speaking of dependable forwards, Grace Farrell then added another point in the 25th minute. Carrickshock added a point from another free in the 30th minute and it looked like we'd take a 2 point lead into half time. Until Ella Fogarty stood over a free on the 45, and she drove it low and hard and it evaded all the hurleys held high, including the keeper and it hit the roof of the net! Deep deep into injury time the Shocks worked the ball down and scored a point to make the half time score 0-04 to 2-02

You know in games that the opposition are going to have a purple patch, when they are on top and all you can do is hold on and try stay in touch. The home side had their time in the second half as they went up 2or3 gears as they rattled over point after point and we were struggling. The three OSheas, Amy, Aoife and Moya and two ONeills, Aoibhin and Clodagh, and Katie Grace really upped the tempo. It was almost fever pitch as the Shocks closed in on our lead, and by the 40th minute they levelled it. For us, the two Longs, Sophie and Jessica were outstanding in the half back line, alongside our own OShea, Emma.

Those three, along with the dogged full back line of Saoirse Barry, Katelyn Moore and Emily Falconer were doing their utmost to keep out the resurgent home team.

In goal Laoise McEvoy had to pull off two superb saves in this half. The first, a head high point blank save that saved a definate goal. The second, low block down to her right that deflected the ball high out to the left of the left post. But amazingly, the umpire gave a point, and despite the protests it was given!! They were now a point ahead, and they scored another point in the 45th minute, we hadnt scored in the half yet. But once again, Grace Farrell came to the rescue, scoring two points in the last 5 minutes to level the match on the full time whistle. 0-10 to 2-04.

And as if there wasnt enough drama we now had 2 halves of 10mins to determine who would go through to play Barrow Rangers in the final.

Carrickshock regained their momentum as they scored two points in the 63rd and 65th minutes with Lia OBrien scoring a fine point after she caught a high pass from the immense Cliodhna Malone, turned her marker and drove it over the bar. 0-12 to 2-05

Carrickshock kept up the relentless pressure though, and despite Piltown battling and fighting, the home side showed their quality and got another two points in the 73 and 74 minute to make it a three point difference at the final whistle.

What a game. What a battling performance by every girl throughout. They should be proud of their display. Well done to Carrickshock Camogie Club and best of luck in the final.

U12 Semi Final  -   Sunday 2 October 22.

Piltown 2-05       Barrow Rangers 1-06.

The third semi final for the club at the weekend and finally we had a win.

Our u12s triumphed over a gallant Barrow Rangers team on a scoreline of 2-05 to 1-06.

Another tight victory for this relentless panel of girls that never give up.

After winning by one point in the previous round, this game proved to be just as close but our girls dug deep in the latter stages of this game and take their place in the final.

Well done girls!!!!!

Junior C'ship semi final  -  Sunday 2 October 22.

Carrickshock 1-13     Piltown 0-14

Another day, another semi final, as we travelled to Thomastown to take on Carrickshock in the Championship semi final. A beautiful morning with no cloud and a warm October sun as the players arrived onto a dewy wet sod by the banks of the Nore.

Carrickshock were first to score, with Aine Rohan getting her first score from a free in the first minute, quickly followed by her second in the 3rd minute. We got on the board through centre forward Edel Long as she shot between the posts to finish a strong surge forward. Soon after , corner forward Chloe Holden opened her account with her first. The game was swinging from end to end as points were scored at both ends in quick reply. Rohan continued to increase her tally with a further 4 points in the first half. Aine Power got her first point in the 8th minute, and Chloe Holden finished our scoring for the first half with 2 more frees in the 10th and 15th minute.

Carrickshock werent finished though. Eabha Carroll picked up a loose ball in the 28th minute and made no mistake as she hit the net beyond Danielle OBriens hurley.

It was a blow for Piltown as it was level before that, and so close to half time.

Half time score Carrickshock 1-07 Piltown 0-05

After the break Piltown took command and Aine Power scored a fine point off her right from distance. Would this restart Piltowns fire? You started to wonder as Carrickshock hit back with two points of their own through Aine Rohan and Aoife OShea. The temperature of the game was rising now as the Piltown girls realised it was do or die now.

And they decided it was... do.

We had a purple patch where we struck 5 unanswered points, Marlise Flynn and Chloe Holden with 2 each and Aine Power scoring them, to make it a 1 point lead for the Shocks with 12 mins to go.

Then when one of players had lengthy treatment on the pitch after a robust challenge, it gave Carrickshock an opportunity to restablish themselves back in the game.

Edel Long scored her second of the day in the 55th minute before Carrickshock scored 3 in a row to make it a 4 point lead on 60mins. As we entered injury time, it was at fever pitch as every ball, high and low, was contested fiercely.

Deep in injury time Aine Power converted a 45 and Edel got her third of the day, but the final whistle came too soon for us and we fell 2 points short.

A savage effort by all our girls in front of a very large crowd in Thomastown, and it was great to see so many of our Senior panel around the pitch supporting and encouraging our girls.

So, another disappointing day for the club, but all involved, on the pitch and on the line, deserve great credit for great performances throughout.

Well done to Carrickshock, and best of luck in the final.

Senior Championship semi Final 2022.     Sat 1 October 22.

Dicksboro 0-21      Piltown 0-10

The dream died on the grass in Tullaroan as Dicksboro  lived up to their favourites tag and put Piltowns challenge to bed on a beautiful Saturday morning in front of a large crowd.

Piltowns captain, Aoife Norris won the toss and elected to play with the wind, perhaps being hopeful we could take advantage of it and maybe gain a foothold to build on.

These two sides are no strangers after meeting in last years final and also in an earlier round in the group stage this year, and it was a familiar scorer that opened the scoring today, as AshaMcHardy raised the first of many white flags in the second minute.

A prolific scorer of our own, Aine Doyle, had 2 points on the board by the 13th minute, and it was becoming apparent that playing into the wind wasnt bothering the Boro at all as they were clinical and efficent with their finishing.

McHardy had her second in the 18th minute, and full forward Orlaith Hanrick was coming to the fore and putting balls over the bar from both sides and from all distances.

The Boro were on top now and were winning dirty ball, second ball and breaking ball. We were starting to be over run as the half back line of the girls in maroon, Tara Clifford and Claire and Niamh Phelan were choking the attacking play of Sinead McCarthy, Ellen OKeeffe and Laura Norris. That said, Laura Norris hit over two fine points in the 19th and 27th minutes, with a point in between from Sophie Holden.

Going the other way, Hanrick was still scoring, as was Lucinda Gahan to edge Dicksboro ahead.

Half Time : Dicksboro 0-08 Piltown 0-05.

A puck of a ball in it, as referee Liz Dempsey got us underway for the second half, but that soon went out to 2 pucks of a ball as Orlaith Hanrick added another 2 and Jenny Clifford got her first of the day. Another first of the day was scored by Katie Power in the 36th minute.

It was getting to a tipping point now as the relentless work of the Boro midfield and half forwards were grinding down our girls. There was a yard of space now where there wasnt before, and with skilful hurlers like the Boro forwards, a yard is all thats needed to raise a flag. Hanrick, Amy Clifford and Aobha OGorman were giving Mairead Power, Alanna Gallagher and Lorraine Long a serious battle throughout. But try as they did, they couldnt prevent the scores.

By the 46th minute it was double scores as Piltown struggled to get in behind a tight defence, with only half chances for Katie, that ran over the end line, and Ellen OKeeffe that also went agonisingly wide, giving us a glimpse of what we are capable of.

In midfield, Karen Duggan and Emer Long had a massive battle against Caoimhe Dowling and Aoife Prendergast and throughout the game there was no pulling out.

It wasnt to be though, and as the final whistle was blown to end the match, and our season, there were big celebrations from the Dicksboro contingent, and in stark contrast there was tears and silence on our side. Sin e spoirt.

A disappointing end to our year, but despite all the absences and injuries, it showed a real togetherness within the panel. Players stepped up to fill the boots of unavailable players and did the jersey proud.

No doubt it hurts, but all girls can be pround of their season.

Well done to all players and coaches, and best of luck to both teams in the final.

U14 Shield Semi final    -  Monday 19 September 22.

Piltown 3-03    OLoughlin Gaels 3-05

The season ended for the valiant panel last night under the lights in Piltown.
And as usual they fought to the final whistle , as they have done in every game this year. Before the throw in there was a minutes silence in sympathy for one of our coaches and player who suffered a bereavement earlier in the day, and it was a testament to both of their dedication that they wanted the game to go ahead, and to play in it. Right from the off it was clear this was going to be a tough test for Piltown ,as OLoughlin’s scored the first point of the game , quickly followed by the second with Grace Farrell striking a fine point to level.
It looked like this was going to nip and tuck as the battle between the half back lines was fierce. Kate Anthony and Ruby Norris were working very hard , the constant running , and handpassing from the OLoughlin girls was great to see, but a nightmare to mark! In the 9th minute Ruby stood over a free , and with her trademark stance, put the ball over the bar to put us ahead. The battle continued with Cliodhna Malone , who had her hands full marking a skilful centre forward, delivering great ball down into our half forwards, where the tireless Faye Maher covered every blade of grass attacking, and defending. OLoughlin’s equalised and then went ahead with 2 more points in the 14th and 18th minutes , and then a hammer blow. A goal in the 20th minute rocked the Piltown defence.
OLoughlin’s were gaining the upper hand now, as their running game was very hard to deal with. But once again, as she has done all year, Grace Farrell scored a goal with a bullet shot right on the half time whistle, leaving the score :
Piltown 1-02 OLoughlin Gaels 1-03
After the break, the game continued at a frantic pace, end to end action, with the sound of hurley on hurley echoing around the back pitch in the still evening air. The workrate from both teams was immense as they fought to gain the upper hand. And once again it was the away side that struck the first blow as they snuck in for a goal on the 35th minute to go 4 ahead. Would this be it ? Is this when Piltown lie down? Not a chance! Ellen Cooney and Fiona Fogarty were winning dirty ball and this lead to Fiona capping off a great display at centre forward with a great over the shoulder point in the 37th minute , then play swung down to the far end and OLoughlins pointed in retaliation. It really was end to end stuff with goal mouth scrambles, shots hitting the post, great blocks by Rachel in our goal , and bodies thrown at shots. Now it was Piltowns turn to strike a blow with our hard working forward Eimear Commins ghosting in to strike the ball into the net to great cheers all around the pitch in the 47th minute. The deficit was now a point.
But while we were still celebrating OLoughlins pucked out, and went down and scored a goal of their own and their own cheers were now heard. It was the ultimate sucker punch. And despite the savage work rate of Jessica Long , Saoirse Barry, Katelyn Moore and the tenacious Eleanor Whelan , OLoughlins added another point with 5 mins left. and with 5 points in it, surely that was it ? Nothing left to give? Game over? Our forwards didn’t think so, as Molly Power and Keelin Brophy tried to repeat their recent goalscoring feats but it was tough against a very good away defence, Was there still time for more drama, more hope, more scores?
Clodagh McCarthy, Kate Fogarty and Georgina Quirke were all introduced in an attempt to get some scores. And with time running out , Ruby stood over the free 21 yards out in the 60th minute , towards the far sideline, youd say ‘take your point’ .. But no, that’s the simple thing to do. She raised, she struck , and she nearly broke the net as the sliothar went into the roof of the net over the keepers head. Cue more cheers , but when referee Maurice Flynn blew the full time whistle soon after, it was OLoughlins turn to cheer as they went through to a shield final.
Well done to them, and best of luck in the final. What a finish to a season for this team , and as they have done numerous times all year , they put on a display of skill and determination and they never gave up. Well done to every panel member, as they all played an important part throughout the year. Well done and thanks to coaches James, John, Catherine and James for their dedication and mentoring of the girls.

Piltown advance to a semi final after beating Thomastown at home on Sunday evening.
The two sides previously met in an earlier round, which Piltown won by 6 , but this time both panels were missing some players due to Senior panel commitments, and it was closer. The home side started well, with Marlise Flynn scoring 2 points in the first 3minutes, the second coming from a long ball from Chloe Power into Marlise’s hand, she turned and put it over the bar. You could see the difference in intensity for this game as Thomastown gave no time or space to any Piltown player with the ball. This is championship.
Thomastown got 2 points by the 11th minute to level the game again, before Marlise got her third and fourth by the half way point of the half , both great strikes from way out on the left hand side under the trees. Leah Cooney and Chloe Holden got points of their own , before Thomastown got in for a goal on the 23rd minute. It was now turning into a serious battle as the goal drove the girls in blue on for more, Piltown knew they were in a match now , and Leah Cooney raised another white flag before Thomastown rose another green one , when a free from a long way out made its way through a ruck of players and past Danielle on goal. The blues were flying as they had a 1 point lead coming up to half time.
And again, Marlise put a free over the bar just on the half whistle to leave a  score of Piltown 0-08 Thomastown 2-02
It was a game on the edge now, as the second half started but once again, Piltown had the initiative early on as Marlise put us back ahead with her 6th point of the evening, this was soon followed by one from Ciara Dunne who had a great game on the left wing. It was a serious battle now as midfield and centre backs from both sides were fighting hard to win dirty ball. Lorna OShea put in a great stint alongside sister Rachel, and one of the toughest half back lines of Sarah Norris , Chloe Power and Sarah Tobin were denying the hard working Thomastown side any scores.
Piltown went 3 ahead after Chloe Holden got her second point of the evening, and as a testament to how hard Piltown were working, it took until the 52nd minute for Thomastown to register their first point in the second half, and that was soon followed by their second, to make it a one point lead for Piltown with 5 minutes to go.
Thomastown threw all they had at Piltown, but the defenders stood strong , and kept them at bay. Heather Phelan got the 12th point of the evening to ensure a narrow, hard fought victory. Final Score – Piltown 0-12 Thomastown 2-04 Piltown Wides 6 Frees 13 Thomastown Wides 8 Frees 10
Scorers Marlise Flynn 0-06 Leah Cooney 0-02 Chloe Holden 0-02 Ciara Dunne 0-01 Heather Phelan 0-01

 Senior Championship 1/4 Final   -  Sunday 18 September  22.

St Martins 1-03      Piltown 3-13

A game that turned out easier that many thought before hand , as we visited Muckalee on a beautiful Sunday morning for a Senior Championship quarter final.
A game with many inter county stars on show , and the one shining the brighest at the end of 60 tough minutes was Piltowns Katie Power as she bagged 2-04 in a brilliant display up front. Katie bagged the opening score from play in the 4th minute as she turned, ran and shot straight between the posts. Aine Doyle stood over a 45 in the 8th minute and also put that straight over as Piltown dominated from the start and the home team were further behind when Ellen OKeeffe scrambled a ball into the net after a ball was dangerously dropped into the goalmouth. St Martins were dropping the ball into the Piltown goalmouth also , but unfortunately for them , the frees from Katie Nolan were not converted and the Piltown defence led by OBrien, ODea and Kenny were clearing these balls away without conceding. Katie Power scored another two points helped by great work by Laura Norris, and then Ellen OKeeffe as Piltown stretched the lead by the mid way point to 1-05.
Laura Norris then struck two fine points of her own before Aine Doyle struck a free from distance. Katie Power then grabbed the 2nd goal of the half as she buried a shot in the 30th minute. Half time score St Martins 0-00 Piltown 2-07. You knew going to Muckalee that Katie Nolan would probably be their first scorer, but you would not have thought you would have to wait until the 4th minute of the second half for it to happen , as she struck a free over Aoife Norris's crossbar to get the home side going.
After being second best throughout the first half, St Martins came out blazing in the second. Tara Roche put her free over the ball, and that was quickly followed by a goal by Maeve Mansfield as she pounced to put it past Aoife Norris. The home side were raising the intensity and Piltown were back on their heels as they struggled to regain control.
But they did. as Sophie Holden pointed as did super wing back Mairead Power with a great run down the right. Tara Roche added another point for the home side before Katie Power struck again with another lethal finish for aher second goal in the 53rd minute to end the hopes of the home side. Ellen , Sophie, Laura , and Katie all scored points to finish out a brilliant display by the girls from Piltown. Final Score : St Martins 1-03 Piltown 3-13.

U16d Championship ¼ Final     -  Wednesday 14 September 22.

Piltown 7-08    Clara 5-03

Piltown marched into the semi finals after a gritty display at home to Clara.
The two teams had met just 3 weeks ago where Eabha Maher gave a great scoring display, and this game went the same way. Eabha raised the green flag in the second minute in what proved to be a signal of intent as Piltown started the game at a tempo Clara couldn’t stay with , and by the time Clara scored their first point, Eabha and Ella Fogarty had added two more points for Piltown. There was no let up as we attacked the clubhouse end, with Brid Fogarty scoring a goal at the back post and Lia OBrien scoring a point before Eabha raised another green flag after a great pass from Grace Farrell. Clara were finding scores hard to come by and by the time their number 12 , Lucy Boyd scored her first point in the 17th minute Piltown had 3-03 on the board.
The scores had to be worked for though and there was nothing easy being given, but the Piltown forwards were playing very well and Eabha had her hattrick when she netted after being put through by her sister Faye in the 28th minute. Were we going to pull away now? Not if Lucy Boyd had her way , as she scored 2 goals for herself in 5 minutes and left the scores at half time – Piltown 4-06 Clara 2-03

The second half started exactly as the first had, with Eabha grabbing her fourth goal of the night in the second minute after Brid Fogarty put her through on goal, this was quickly followed by another goal , a much deserved one for Molly Power . But still Clara, and Boyd , wouldn’t give up as she scored a second half hattrick of goals to keep Clara in with a chance. But with brilliant defensive displays from Saoirse Barry , Jessica Long and Sophie Long , the Piltown defence were doing enough, especially with forwards Like Grace Farrell (scoring 1-04) and Eabha Maher (scoring 4-02) always dangerous. It was a very good display by the home side , and they battled and took their scores , that’s whats needed to win a tough championship game. Clara never gave up and battled and fought til the final whistle , especially Lucy Boyd scoring 5-02 on the night.
Full time score Piltown 7-08 Clara 5-03

U14 Champ Semi final    -  Friday 9 September 22.

St Brigids 3-10       Piltown 3-03

A Championship Semi Final away in Kilmanagh is always going to be tough, and it proved to be very tough as the home side battled to victory over a brave Piltown side.

St Brigids started very well and had the Piltown defence under pressure straight away. It took them two 45s for them to score their first points through the impressive Tara Cody.

It took Piltown 13mins to get their first score through Grace Farrell. It was a slow start by our girls, and the home side were taking full advantage. They had 4points on the scoreboard before they scored their first goal in the 18th minute, and in the 27th scored their second. We looked in trouble. We got a lifeline right on half time when you know who, Grace Farrell, volleyed Ruby's long range free over her head into the net.

Half Time St Brigids 2-05 Piltown 1-01.

The goal and half time team talk rejuvenated our girls, and it was our turn to create pressure. With Ruby Norris and Kate Anthony hunting down every ball and Fiona Fogarty and Faye Maher running at the defence, we raised another green flag as Grace got her second. Game on!

Brigids were superb though as the calmly took their points to go 7points ahead again before Grace completed her hattrick in the 47th minute. The game was in the melting pot now, and the home side kept their nerve, and their lead, as they struck with their 3rd goal in the 54th minute.

Piltowns hopes were diminishing along with the light as the rain came down.

What a great game of camogie and St Brigids were worthy winners, and best of luck in the Final. A Shield semi final is next up for our girls.

Final score St Brigids 3-10 Piltown 3-03

U16 Lge/Championship -  Rd3    - Wednesday 7 September 22.

Piltown 1-04     Bennettsbridge 4-06

On a wet windy evening in Piltown, Bennettsbridge arrived and left with the 3 points after a dominant display over a flat footed home side. We got off to a good start through our prolific forward Grace Farrell when she raised the white flag after 2 minutes, but the Bennettsbridge forwards were putting our defence under pressure with their movement and passing.
They got on the scoresheet with a point of their own, but it took until the 15th minute for them to make the pressure count and take the lead with their second point. But once again , Piltown didn’t panic. We went straight up the field and a great pass from Faye put Grace through and she wasn’t going to miss. 1-01 to 0-02 after 16mins. That setback didn’t worry the visitors though, and in the next 8mins, they scored 3-02 including a monster free struck from near the half way line from their no. 15! Half time score Piltown 1-01 B’Bridge 3-05
The second half was a tighter affair as the wet conditions affected handling and footing. Piltowns play improved and put in some great dangerous balls in around the goal mouth but the Bennetsbridge keeper and back line defended very well. The away side got their fourth goal just after Grace pointed, and Ella Fogarty scored 2 more points to close out the game. A tough evening for the girls, but plenty of positives. Thanks to all the supporters and umpires that stood in the rain! Full Time : Piltown 1-04 Bennettsbridge 4-06.

Senior A.C.L   -  Sunday 4 September 22.

Piltown 1-08    Dicksboro 3-18.

A big victory for Dicksboro on the road, as they went away from Piltown with the points.

The result wasn't going to affect either sides standing as they were both assured of a 1/4 final place in two weeks time, but no one wanted to lose either.

It was always going to be an uphill battle for us as a mixture of injuries and players not being available, put us on the back foot.

It was a chance for girls to challenge for positions and show what they could do, but up against a flying Dicksboro side that was not going to be easy.

The away side got the perfect start with a penalty scored by Orlaith Hendrick. Piltown were against the breeze, but that didn't bother Aine Doyle as she stood over a free on the 45 just to the left of the posts, and stroked it over for Piltowns first score. After 8mins it was Aine Doyle 0-03 Dicksboro 1-03, but then two goals within 2mins by Rose Kelly changed that.Piltown were struggling to counteract a Dicksboro team that were working through the lines and finding each other easily.

Chloe Holden and Edel Long raised the white flag along with Aine Doyle 4th free of the half to leave it 0-06 to 3-08 at half time. Dicksboro had the luxury of bringing players of the calibre of Asha McHardy, Jenny Clifford and Lucinda Gahan, and they all contributed to the score board in the second half. Piltown never dropped the heads though, with Ellen OKeeffe scoring a goal in the 43rd minute.

The scores were hard to get though, as Laura Norris and Leah Cooney added to the points in the 52nd and 53rd minutes. Meanwhile Dicksboro were tagging on their points also.

A game that had no bearing on eithers sides position, but the bragging rights head north with Dicksboro. We move onto a 1/4 final in two weeks time.

U14 3rd Rd   -    Wednesday  31 August 22.

Piltown 3-10    St Lachtains 1-03

A spot in a semi final was up for grabs as the U14s took to the field on Wednesday evening to take on St Lachtains. It looked like it was going to be a tough game, as we played into the sun, but Piltown showed no fear with Grace Farrell opening the scoring in the 3rd minute with a point, then Ruby Norris added to the score with a well struck 45 .
The points kept coming as Grace added another from play and Faye Maher scoring a lovely point on the run. The away side got off the mark with their first in the 17 minute. Grace scored another free, before the Freshford side scored a controversial goal right on half time to make the score 1-05 to 1-01.
A fired up Piltown flew out for the second half with Grace notching another point before Keelin Brophy finished off a great move with Ruby finding Faye with a short pass, Faye had a shot that was saved by the keeper, and Keelin swooped in to volley the sliothar into the net. Lachtains werent getting the scores their play warranted though as Cliodhna Malone gave a masterclass at no. 6 , Katelyn Moore dogged as ever at full back, and Saoirse Barry and Eleanor Whelan giving Katelyn great assistance. It was a great defensive display with Jessica Long, and Ellen Cooney giving a great performance at wing back. The rest of the half was the Farrell show as Grace continued to raise green and white flags at the road end. An excellent display by all members of the panel.
Final Score : Piltown 3-10 St Lachtains 1-03

U12 Lge rd3     -   Monday 29 August 22 .

Piltown 3-01    John Lockes 2-03

What a game! Victory from the jaws of defeat, as our U12s came back to beat John Lockes by one point in a great game of camogie played by two talented teams. At the back , Rachel Tennyson was in top form as she denied the Lockes attackers numerous times when they went for goal. In front of her Ciara Quinn was tenacious in the tackle helped with Maia Stokes and Cliona Gleeson , Rachel Coady was immense in midfield where she covered every blade of grass and tackled every player.
Ruby Norris scored two goals from long range frees in the second half to clinch the win, after Siobhan Aylward had gotten her side back into the game at the start of the second half with a great display of ground hurling as she 'pulled on it' into the back of the net. Such a great display of heart and never say die attitude by EVERY player in a Piltown jersey last night, a great team effort got the win . It was hard on John Lockes to lose such a tight game.

U16 Championship Rd 2 -  Sunday 28 August  22.

Clara 2-05   Piltown 4-09

A beautiful warm evening on the outskirts of Kilkenny and Clara was the venue for an u16 clash. Our girls came out of the traps quickly and had 1-02 on the board via Eabha Maher, before Clara registered their first point. Eabha is on fire at the moment and finished the half with 3-03. Clara gave themselves a glimpse of hope as a long range shot bounced awkwardly past our defenders and keeper and into the net.

The goal spurred Clara on as they came back out for the second half and scored another 1-02 before we got back into the groove with our super reliable free taker Grace Farrell stepped up and stroked a 45 over the bar to make it 2-05 to 4-05 after 45mins. We did enough to win it though with Kate Farrell and Áine Kirwan raising the white flag to close out the game.

Senior  Champ   Rd 2 -   Sunday 28 August  22.

Piltown 0-12    St Brigids 1-06.

A beautiful Sunday morning, perfect conditions for Piltown V St Brigids in the 2nd round of championship camogie.

This was slow simmer of a game as opposed to the boiling heat of latter rounds of a championship, and the home side struggled to shake off the determined rugged team from Kilmanagh.

St Brigids scored the first and third points of the game, with Aine Doyle getting one from a free in between. It was a half played between the two 21s and the scores weren't coming easy for either team.

By the 20th minute Piltown trailed by 2points to 5, but that 5th point was the last Brigids would score until the 54th minute.

Áine Doyle kept up her laser guided shooting as she scored 4points in the first half, and added to Laura Norris, who is getting better with each game, made the score level at 5 points apiece at half time.

The home side came out fired up for the second half, with Sophie Holden, Aine Doyle and Laura Norris getting points in the first 5 mins.Piltown were getting on top in this 3rd quarter and, try as they might, Brigids just couldn't break down a defence marshalled superbly by Alanna Gallagher, Lorraine Long and Mairéad Power.

The last 20mins were all Piltown, as Aine Doyle scored 4 more points, but then in the 63min, Brigids got through and scored a goal to make the final score Piltown 0-12 St Brigids 1-06.

Junior Championship rd2   - Friday 26 August 22.

Piltown 3-08    Dicksboro 1-07

They did it the hard way, but they did it none the less , as Piltown overcame the challenge of Dicksboro this evening in Piltown. On a beautiful sunny evening , with a ferris wheel and hurdy gurdys in the background, the home side did enough to get the win. Dicksboro started off the better team and were 1-01 up within the first 7mins before the home team got their first score through Leah Cooney in the 10th minute, and it was another 5 mins before Aine Doyle pointed from a 45, and another 5mins after that before Aine Power pointed.
Dicksboro were doing all the hurling, the home side looked flat footed , understandably so after playing a game 48hrs previously, and it was looking like it was going to be a long hard evening until Marlise Flynn took over and scored 1-02 in the final 9 mins to close out the half and make it all square at half time 1-05 apiece.
The Piltown management would have been happy to take that, as we didn’t seemed to get out of 2nd gear at all in the first 30mins. The second half started and away we went with Aine Doyle grabbing her second point straight from the throw in, and Marlise added another soon after.
Dicksboro replied with 2 points of their own to level the game again in the 41st minute, but they proved to be their last , as Piltown upped a gear and played hurling with the intensity we know they have. Aine Power then grabbed a goal to put 3 between the teams in the 44th minute, followed by Leah Cooneys second, and then Marlise finished off a great move with her second green flag to end the game with a flourish.
A workmanlike performance overall by the team, tired legs and bodies contributed to the sluggish play, but…. Job done. Scorers - Marlise Flynn 2-03, Leah Cooney 0-02 , Aine Doyle 0-02 , Aine Power 1-01

Junior Champ Rd 2 -   Wednesday 24 August 22.

Thomastown 1-08    Piltown 1-14.

Doyle does it again.

Aine came away with a tally of 1-07 in a game that the away side were comfortable throughout , but a last minute goal by the home side makes it look a bit closer than it was. Piltown made a quick start with our number 12 scoring 2 frees and a 45 within the first 7minutes , before Thomastown pointed in the 8th minute. Then in the 15th minute , referee Gavin Quilty raised his arms and gave a penalty as Aine Power was dragged down.
Up stepped the other Aine, and she blasted the sliothar into the top left corner. Thomastown had chances in the half though , and ended up hitting 6 wides and numerous balls dropped into keeper Danielle OBriens hand also. Aine Power and Leah Cooney also rose the white flag in the first 30mins also. HT : T’town 0-03 Piltown 1-08
Thomastown had the slight breeze in their favour in the second half but Piltown added another 2 points through Leah Cooney and Aine Doyle before Thomastown raised a white flag of their own. The second half was more of a battle between the 2 half back lines , with Rachel OShea and Chloe Power on a lot of ball throughout.
In the other half the ever busy Edel Long and always busy Aine Power kept the home sides defence working hard. Edel Long got on the scoresheet in the 46th minute after a lovely pass from a free from Aine Doyle. The latter stages were low on scores as subs were introduced and Piltown were comfortably ahead.
And it was left to Chloe Holden to score the last (and best) point of the night after great passing from Sophie Long to Aine Power to Chloe , and she stuck it over the white spot from distance.
Wides – Ttown 8 Piltown 5 Scorers – Aine Doyle 1-07 , Leah Cooney 0-02, Aine Power 0-02 , Chloe Holden 0-02 , Edel Long 0-01.
A quick turnaround for the panel as they are at home to Dicksboro on Friday evening.

 Windgap 2-12      Piltown 3-12

Its never easy going to your near neighbours, and its harder to go there for championship games, and so it proven on Sunday 21 August as we travelled to Windgap for a first round game.
Under clear blue sky and a warm sun, the ball was thrown in and Windgap grabbed the lead , with Denise Gaule scoring the first two points before Aine Doyle and Katie Power levelled. It was proving to be a score for score first half as Gaule tagged on points from frees as the Piltown defence got to grips with a lively Windgap forward line. The scores were level again when Patsy Kenny stood over the ball and scored from distance, and then a turning point, as Piltown scored a great team goal in the 18th minute, as the ball went to hand from Katie Power to Emer Long to Laura Norris and into the hand of Sinead McCarthy who blasted it to the back of the net.
Two minutes later , another green flag as Aine Doyle showed great intelligence to ghost in behind a ruck of 3 players contesting a high ball on the 21, they missed it, Aine didnt, and she bore down on goal and did not miss. But the home team stayed calm and Denise Gaule scored the last 3 scores of the first half to leave it Windgap 0-07 Piltown 2-04 at half time.
The second half continued as the first half , as Windgap scored the first 2 points before our two Aine's , Power and Doyle tagged points of their own. Then Deirdre Purcell levelled the game again with a clinical finish after 34mins. Piltown were rocked, and then it looked like another turning point as Purcell slipped through for her second goal of the game., and Windgap were 3points ahead.
It was point for point after that, as Sophie Holden, Katie Power and Aine Doyle chipped away at the lead with great score. It really was in the mix now, with us down by 2points in the 59th minute. But cometh the hour, cometh the Power as , our number 11 got the ball into hand on the 21, and headed for goal, and buried the ball in the bottom left corner. What a finish to a great game.
Final Score; Windgap 2-12 Piltown 3-12

What a day... What a day. Our U12s had a day of days on Tuesday 16 August, when they lined out in Croke Pk to take on Portlaw, Mungret/St Paul's and Clonakilty.

They had the experience of a lifetime, and won all their games. Even more importantly they had a great day, with smiles, songs and loads of craic. Memories forever. Big thanks to Jennifer and her coaches for organising.

Junior C   - League Semi Final -  Sunday 14 August 22.

The season is over for the Junior Cs as their great run ended at the semi final stage after a superb Young Irelands teams beat them this morning in sweltering conditions.

After beating Clara in the previous round, confidence was high in the Piltown camp. That confidence was knocked a bit as the Gowran side got the first 4 scores through the very impressive Ciara Bryan and Julie Lennon.

But Piltown struck back through Marlise Flynn when she scored a goal from a free from the 45.

But by the time Piltown scored their next goal in the 10th minute through Niamh Dermody, Young Irelands had raised 2 green flags of their own.

It was the home side doing all the scoring, and by half time led 6-09 to 2-03.

Our girls never gave up even as the result was out of their reach and Anna OBrien scored our third goal to wrap up the best passage of play in the match as a pass at the end of a surging run was caught by Antonia Power, she drew the defender in and laid the ball off to Anna and she made no mistake.

Young Irelands were well worth the win, and best of luck to them in the Final, and with forwards like the two mentioned earlier and the superb Kate Drennan, they will take beating.

Well done to Antonia Power and Michelle OShea for managing the team and to all the players who gave their all in each game.

Junior C League Championship 1/4 final.  - Friday 5 August 22

Piltown 4-18    Clara 3-01

As Cyndi Lauper once said, 'girls just wanna have fun' that is true of course, and this group do that and play some great camogie too.
On a beautiful evening in Piltown the Junior C team dominated this game and put up big score over the 60mins. Clara never gave up throughout but they met a home team that matched flying form with superb scoring.

Piltown had 9 different scorers during the game, with the excellent Marlise Flynn leading the way with 2-05. There was some great phases of play throughout the game with quick ball to hand and options for passes leading to scores from both wings and from distance down the middle.

Edel Long continued to show her good form with 1-02 in the second half, her goal coming from a great run from deep and left the Clara keeper with no chance to save her shot.
Elsewhere, Heather Phelan chipped in with 3 points, Siobhan Dermody with 2 from the wing, the non stop Ella Fogarty with 2 also.

It was a great team performance from all positions with the industrious Sophie Long and Niamh Dermody also grabbing points. Alanagh Hanlon and Anna OBrien finished off the scoring to great excitement on the sideline.

Well done girls, and best of luck in the Semi Final.

Junior League Final     -  Sunday 31 July 22.

Carrickshock 2-11    Piltown 0-13.

The hoodoo of John Locke Park remains after Piltown lost another final there this morning.

This time it was the Juniors that lost out to Carrickshock in the League Final.

Referee Julian ODwyer threw the ball in at 10sharp and within the first minute Carrickshock scored their first point through the impressive Aine Rohan. One of our own Áines, Aine Doyle, levelled within the second from a placed ball.

Aine Rohan pointed again and Marlise Flynn equalised, before the two Piltown Áines, Doyle and Power scored great points to put us up by two after 13mins. Carrickshock then kicked into gear and scored 7 more points to bring them to 9points at half time, with Aine D adding a free to leave 4 between the teams at half time.

Piltown 0-05 Carrickshock 0-09

The second half started with a flurry of points, with Piltown scoring 4 unanswered points in 4 minutes to level the scores , Edel Long scoring two, as did Marlise Flynn.

Áine Doyle added another score from a free to put us ahead. The Shocks tagged one to go back level through Aoife OShea, but then a dagger to the hearts of Piltown, as Margaret Irish pounced to raise the green flag after 6 mins of the second half.

It was a sucker punch, just as the momentum seemed to be swinging in Piltowns favour. They didn't wilt though as Aine Doyle struck over another point to make it 9 scores in the first 8 mins!

It would be hard to keep up that whirlwind start, and so it proved as both teams then tightened up and scores were scarce and hard to get.

Áine Doyle took her tally to 6pts as she scored from play, but then the killer moment as we went from 2pts behind to 5 as the lively Eabha Carroll pounced for Carrickshocks second goal of the half in the 53minute.

Ciara Dunne took a shot from out near the sideline and it looped over Clodagh O'Neill in the Shocks goal and appeared to go in the top corner of the net. But after the referee conferred with the umpires it was given as a point.

That was the final score of the game and it finished in a victory for Carrickshock 2-11 to 0-13.

Well done to the Piltown girls and coaches, a great effort throughout and congratulations to Carrickshock.

Senior Championship Final - Sunday   November 21

Dicksboro 0-15    Piltown 2-8

There was delight at the end of the season as the Dicksboro senior camogie team got their hands on the county crown

The city side had to work hard for the spoils, putting in a late effort to overtake Piltown and make sure they earned their second title in three years

The Boro were quick to get going in Sunday’s final, played in John Locke Park, taking a first minute lead thanks to Amy Clifford opened the scoring from play after Aobha O’Gorman shot had been blocked out by the Piltown defence.

The South Kilkenny side weren’t behind for long, as talisman Katie Power equalised with a point from play in the 2nd minute. Aoife Prendergast and Amy Clifford extended the City side’s lead with a point a piece from play by the 6th minute. Niamh Culleton scored a lovely point on the run for Piltown.

Good Start

Amy Clifford continued her good start to the game, tacking on two points (1f), before Sophie Holden added a point from play in the 11th minute for Piltown. Aoife Doyle added another point from play for Piltown after the Referee consulted his umpires to narrow the gap to a point.

In the 12th minute, Piltown made a decisive dash. When the sliotar was played into the corner, Katie Power ran onto it. She rounded her marker, ran towards goal and hit an unstoppable shot passed Kirsty Maher in the Dicksboro goal

It was a big score, one that put Piltown ahead at the first Waterbreak (1-4 to 0-5)

Using the mini break to clear their heads, Dicksboro equalised by the 17th minute with points from play from Lucinda Gahan and Aobha O’Gorman. However, Piltown had the bit between their teeth – points from Niamh Culleton and Sophie Holden put Piltown ahead again with two well worked points from play

Dicksboro kept looking for a big score, but couldn’t get the green flag flying. They came very close in the 25th minute, when Aoife Prendergast took a shot towards the Piltown goalposts from 50m out on the stand sideline. The sliotar bounced straight in front of Piltown goalie, Aoife Norris who was mightily relived to see it bounce high over the bar

The City side kicked on, Jenny Clifford scored the equaliser for Dicksboro after Lucinda Gahan had picked out her out unmarked. Jenny slotted over the bar, leaving the sides level at half time Dicksboro 0-9 Piltown 1-6

The second half wasn’t on long before the sides traded scores. Sophie Holden pointed from play for Piltown before Aoife Prendergast equalised with a free for Dicksboro

The same player added another point in the 39th minute to put Dicksboro ahead. Three minutes later, Dicksboro were awarded a penalty, when Aobha O’Gorman was fouled in the square.

Amy Clifford stood up to take the penalty, but saw her shot flash wide of the mark

It was a huge let-off for Piltown, who took advantage of the miss to surge forward. From the puckout Piltown played the sliotar up towards Katie Power, she turned and laid it off to the onrushing Niamh Culleton. Seizing her chance, Culleton blasted it to the back of the Dicksboro net to put Piltown ahead 2-7 to 0-11 at the second waterbreak

Rather than panic, Dicksboro showed their composure to take control of the game in the final quarter.

Amy Clifford added two points from frees to equalise and then scored another free in the 53rd minute to put Dicksboro ahead.

Lucinda Gahan scored her second points for the city side just on the hour mark. Piltown did try their best to get scores – Katie Power narrowed the gap to the minimum from a close in free – but the ‘Boro weren’t about to relinquish their lead now

The referee blew the full time whistle shortly after – Dicksboro were Senior County Champions for the Second time in three years

Junior Championship Final      -  Sunday November 21.

Mooncoin 3.07     Piltown 0.08

A title 33 years in the waiting was Mooncoin’s reward as they were crowned Kilkenny Junior Camogie Champions after overcoming a stiff early challenge from Piltown.

Three first half goals, one from each of Mooncoin’s full forward line, coupled with excellent goalkeeping from netminder Ellen Crowley proved the difference between the teams.

Once Referee Peter Burke threw in the ball this game took off, as neighbours challenged each other in this battle of the Barony of Iverk.

Niamh Crowley opened the scoring for Mooncoin with a super score after less than 30 seconds. Piltown then worked the ball to Leah Cooney who duly levelled the match. From the Puck out the athletic Lorna O’Shea gave Piltown the lead for the only time in the match with a great individual score.

Mooncoin’s response was immediate. Selfless teamwork got the ball to Eva Aylward who expertly dispatched the ball to the back of the Piltown net to a massive cheer from the large Mooncoin support in the record attendance in John Locke Park.

Quick fire points from Deirdre Walsh and Lauren Comerford left Piltown gasping for air, they stemmed the tide with an excellent score from Ciara Dunne on the left wing.

Piltown needed another score to get some momentum, but it was Mooncoin who drove on, working the ball to leading goal scorer Laura Wall who cracked a beauty to the net giving Piltown goalie Danielle O’ Brien no chance.

Piltown earned a free that was missed, and they then worked the ball to Nicola Phelan who bore down on goal only for Mooncoin net minder Ellen Crowley to bravely block the goal attempt and drive out with the ball for a defiant clearance. The first water break brought a pulsating first quarter to an end.

The second quarter started with Mooncoin on the attack again but it was Piltown’s midfield dominance that led to the first point, a fine Lorna O’Shea score. They had a goal opportunity after that, but the combination of Ellen Crowley and the excellent Niamh Madden at fullback kept Piltown at bay. The resultant forty-five was drilled over expertly by Aine Doyle.

Piltown must have felt that on the stroke of half time they were making inroads into Mooncoin’s lead but, in added time Mairead Corcoran and Sarah Crowley worked the ball to Laura Wall who picked out Niamh Crowley to take off and bury the ball in the Piltown net. At half time  Mooncoin 3.03 to 0.05 ,  six scores to five – but seven points in it!

The second half opened with Mooncoin points for Laura Wall and Eva Aylward. Rather than press on Mooncoin appeared to retreat to protect their lead, allowing Piltown to drive at them.

Piltown where finding it increasingly hard to break down the Mooncoin rear-guard, picking up just two frees which were converted by Aine Doyle. The third quarter ended when Mooncoin countered with a nice score from official player of the match Laura Wall, pushing her side eight points clear

The fourth quarter was a dogged affair with Piltown pounding away in search of goals but, after thirty-three years as a junior club Mooncoin were in no mood to concede. The tireless Lisa McCarty pointed an excellent score for Piltown and Deirdre Walsh, Mooncoin’s playmaker, closed the games scoring with a well taken free.

On minute fifty-five of this match a Mooncoin substitution was made that celebrated a living hero in Marianne Walsh who played brilliantly all match at cornerback. Having this time last year being diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Mariannes’ recovery is an incredible story of determination and an inspiration to all.

Peter Burke’s last whistle confirmed Mooncoin’s elevation to intermediate status for 2022. They were gracious in victory as were Piltown in defeat after a fine sporting game.

Piltown are a wonderful club and a kingpin of Kilkenny camogie for some time now. For their lionhearted squad and management today was not their day, to reach any county final is a fantastic achievement and to also reach a senior final in the same year is outstanding. The Piltown Junior squad is lined with talent that have and will embellish Piltown Camogie.

Today was more than a success for one team over another, today was a success for female sport. With a total attendance estimated close to 1800 people at a junior camogie county final and being broadcast live on two radio stations, it was a success for the 2020 campaign of “if you can’t see it, you can’t be it”, credit to the Camogie Association and the Kilkenny County Camogie Board.

Senior Championship Semi Final  -  Sunday  31 October 21

Piltown 1-11    Clara 2-7

When these two sides met in last year’s quarter final in Piltown, it took extra time to separate them. Clara prevailed on that occasion by the bare minimum. This time it was Piltown’s turn to scrape home by a point, the memory of last year’s defeat providing them with that extra motivation to pull through here.

On a day that was not conducive to good camogie, these two teams served up a brilliant spectacle of sporting and committed hurling, despite the driving wind and rain. Emma Shortall and Katie Power scored two points each to open the game. These two girls were to go on to have a major influence on the game. Midway through the first quarter a shot from Alanna Gallagher from distance went all the way to the Clara net. It was one of those balls that looked like a point all the way until it dipped just under the crossbar at the last second past a helpless Lucy Cody. This gave a wind assisted Piltown the impetus they needed to drive on and lead by 1-5 to 0-2 at the first water break.

They continued to attack hard in the second quarter and helped by two further Katie Power points from play, they held a 1-8 to 0-3 interval lead. Clara’s sole second quarter score had come from the stick of Emma Shortall, who was her side’s only scorer by halftime. Katie Power had already scored 6 points at this stage, four of them from play and was proving a real handful for the Clara defence.

The breeze was very strong and an eight point lead did not look at all insurmountable. After Siobhán Curtis for Clara and Sophie Holden had exchanged scores early in the second half Clara scored an unanswered goal and a point to reduce the deficit to a manageable four points. The goal was scored by Emma Shortall after a brilliant run and cross by the wholehearted Aisling Nolan. Again, it was Katie Power who stopped the rot for Piltown with a brilliant point from play, and a pointed 45 by team captain Kelly Ann Doyle had the gap back to five, 1-11 to 1-6, with a quarter to go.

Piltown didn’t score for that final quarter and Clara threw the kitchen sink at them. However, county goalie Aoife Norris was very assured at this stage and Lorraine Long, who did a fine containment job on Mary O Connell all day, although with the aid of a sweeper in front of Mary also, was also prominent along with Kelly Ann Doyle. Emma Shortall broke through for her second goal with five minutes left but a Mary O Connell 45 was the only other score that Clara could manage before the end. Mary had a late late chance from a very acute angle near the sideline but it drifted right and wide.

At the other end of the field Tamsin English did a fine man marking job on Aoife Doyle, again with the aid of a sweeper. Lucy Cody never put a foot wrong outside of the goal which beat her. Gráinne Glynn, Katie Ryan, Aisling Curtis and Claire Nolan defended well. Aisling Nolan tried heroically at midfield but only Emma Shortall was a consistent threat up front.

The winners, once they got their noses in front with that goal, made better use of the elements. They had star performers all over the field, most notably Aoife Norris, Kelly Ann Doyle, Lorraine Long, Laura Norris. And in Katie Power they had the best player on view who came up with most of the important scores for a team that wanted it that little bit more in a cracking game. Huge credit is due to both teams for that.

Piltown – Aoife Norris, Jennifer Norris, Jenny O’Dea, Patsy Kenny, Mairead Power, Kelly Ann Doyle 0-1 (1 45), Lorraine Long, Laura Norris, Emer Long, Ellen O’Keeffe, Alanna Gallagher 1-0, Aoife Doyle 0-1, Sophie Holden 0-1, Katie Power 0-7 (2f), Niamh Culleton 0-1. Sub used Aine Power.

Clara – Lucy Cody, Gráinne Glynn, Laoise Nolan, Katie Ryan, Tamsin English, Aisling Curtis, Claire Nolan, Rebecca Nolan, Aisling Nolan, Keara Ryan, Siobhán Curtis 0-1, Mary O Connell 0-3 (2f, 1 45), Emma Shortall 2-3, Margaret O Connell, Catherine Murphy. Sub used Niamh Byrne

Junior Championship Semi Final - Sunday 31 October 21.

Piltown 2-10      John Lockes/Bennettsbridge 2-7

Piltown's Junior team made history today by becoming Kilkenny's first Junior camogie team since St Paul's in the 1970's to reach a championship final in the same year as their Senior team.

With great respect to the Senior management, they used no subs from the Junior team in the Senior semi final only hours beforehand, leaving a full Junior squad to contest John Lockes/Bennettsbridge in Danesfort.

The first half saw Piltown trailing at the first two breaks, but never by more than 3 points. Aine Doyle was accurate with placed balls, and points from Ciara Dunne and Leah Cooney brought the score to 5 points at half time, against Callans 1-5 (with Meghan Walsh creating most of their scores)

Leah Cooney came out of the traps in the second half with all guns blazing, scoring 2 goals and a point before the final water break. The defenders worked every bit as hard as the forwards, and there was a concerted team effort to keep Piltown in the lead. A late goal from Lizzy Keher brought the teams to within 3 points of each other, but the final whistle signalled celebrations all round for Piltown.

Final Score Piltown 2-10, John Lockes/Bennettsbridge 2-7

Junior Championship 1/4 Final    - Sunday 24 October 21.

Piltown 1-5     Thomastown 0-7

Piltown got the benefit from a lucky rainbow in Thomastown this evening. Although Thomastown beat Piltown in the last round of the Iverk Produce Junior Championship there was nothing between the teams today. Thomastown had most of the play in the first half and had several goal opportunities that were vigorously defended by Piltown's backs. The teams were level at half time and level again in the final minute before Nicola Phelan popped a point over the bar to win the match, sending Piltown into its first Junior semi final since 2008.

Final score Piltown 1-5 Thomastown 0-7

Draws for the Senior and Junior semi finals will be made on Monday night and both teams are due to play again next weekend.

Team: Danielle O’Brien, Maire Beth Kirby, Chloe Power (0-1), Lisa Norris, Shauna Coady, Emily McCarthy, Sarah Tobin, Rachel O'Shea, Lorna O'Shea, Ciara Dunne, Lisa McCarthy (0-1), Sinead McCarthy, Heather Phelan (0-2f) , Nicola Phelan (1-1), Siobhan Dermody, Katelynn Phelan, Anna O’Brien, Soracha Phelan, Alanagh Hanlon, Antonia Power, Hilary Power, Leanne Dunne, Chloe Holden, Laura Power, Jessica Norris, Brighid Twohig, Aisling Brophy.

Senior Championship 1/4 Final     - Sunday 24 October 21.

Piltown 3-9    St Brigid's 0-6

Our Senior ladies booked a place in the Michael lyng Motors Championship semi finals next weekend with a comprehensive win over St Brigids this morning. After two early points from the Kilmanagh ladies the scoring for Piltown opened with a terrific point from Aoife Doyle. Points were difficult to score with the incessant wind, causing many wides for both sides, but Katie Power persisited with three further points before a goal from Sophie Holden opened a decent gap between the teams.
Aoife Norris struck a penalty well in the second half, and Katie Power scored Piltown's third goal in the 50th minute. Five of St Brigid's forwards scored during the match but not enough points went on the board to make a difference to the result. Kellyann Doyle was outstanding throughout the match, scoring two points from play from her position at centreback.

Final score Piltown 3-9 St Brigid's 0-6

Aoife Norris (1-0), Jennifer Norris, Jenni O'Dea, Patsy Kenny, Mairead Power, Kellyann Doyle (0-3 (1x45), Lorraine Long, Laura Norris (0-1), Emer Long, Ellen O'Keeffe, Alanna Gallagher, Aoife Doyle (0-1), , Katie Power (1-5), Sophie Holden (1-0) Niamh Culleton, Aine Power, Chloe Power, Danielle O'Brien, Emily McCarthy, Rachel O'Shea, Sarah Tobin, Sinead McCarthy, Maire Beth Kirby, Katelynn Phelan.

Junior Championship 1st rd  -  Sunday 17 October 21.

Piltown 2-12    Dicksboro 1-6

Our Junior team met Dicksboro in the first round of the Iverk Produce Junior Championship this afternoon. Having drawn with them in the league section a few weeks ago, Piltown came out with all guns blazing today. Sinead McCarthy opened the scoring with a stylish point from play, followed by more from Lorna O'Shea and Lisa McCarthy. Dicksboro only had 4 points at that stage, and made no impact in the second half, scoring 1-2 to Piltown's 1-5.

But in testament to the standard and spirit of both teams, no scores were awarded from frees in the whole match. A huge effort was put in all over the field to get the win, and Emily McCarthy was outstanding at centre back.
FInal score Piltown 2-12, Dicksboro 1-6.

Team: Panel: Danielle O’Brien, Maire Beth Kirby, Chloe Power, Lisa Norris, Ciara Dunne, Emily McCarthy, Rachel O'Shea, Lorna O'Shea (0-1), Sarah Tobin, Lisa McCarthy (0-2), Sinead Mc Carthy (1-3), Leah Cooney (0-4), Heather Phelan (0-01, 45), Nicola Phelan (1-0), Siobhan Dermody (0-1),

Senior Championship 1st rd  -  Sunday 17 October 21.

Piltown 4-11    St Martins 2-09

Piltown's Senior team met St Martin's in the first round of the Championship this morning in Piltown. St Martin's made an early start with three points in a row before kellyann Doyle scored for Piltown. Aoife Doyle followed quickly with a goal, and another point from Laura Norris settled the team.
